Defective and Extremely Dangerous Airbags Recall

Jacksonville Auto Defect Lawyer

Defective and extremely dangerous airbags are being recalled in massive numbers and drivers in Florida and Georgia are being warned to act immediately on recall notices. Vehicles in states with high humidity and warm temperatures may be at the highest risk. At least two deaths are being blamed on the defect which can cause an airbag to explode sending shrapnel into the face of the driver or front seat passenger. Consumer advocates call them ticking time bombs.

Attorney Steve Pajcic explained the airbag defect on WJXT-TV-4. “The inflator has a defect. Heat, humidity and time make it worse”, Pajcic said. What’ll happen, it’ll come out too fast. It will explode the container. That’s where the shrapnel comes from. It’s not much, but when it comes out, if it comes out, and hits you in the wrong place, hits you in the eye, you’re half blind. Both eyes, completely blind. Hit in a part of the neck? It can kill you like a bullet.” The complete story can be seen on channel 4’s website.

The Law Firm of Pajcic & Pajcic has handled several airbag explosion cases with injuries to the eyes, nose and skull. The settlements are always confidential because the defendants insist on it and pay more to secure it. While The Law Firm of Pajcic & Pajcic would like to use the settlements to educate the public about the hazard, the firm has to put its client’s interest in the full and fair settlement first. The defect is dangerous and the risk of occurrence is growing as cars with these airbags age and the bags deteriorate in the heat and humidity, yet the number of cases still pales in comparison to the number of cases involving Firestone tire detread/Explorer rollover of a few years back. The airbag explosion cases have been around for over a decade, and there have been several deaths around the world and hundreds of serious injuries. In contrast, The Law Firm of Pajcic & Pajcic saw and handled over 30 Ford Firestone cases, including three death cases in Florida alone. But, if the airbag explodes in your eyes or shoots metal into your jugular, it can still be devastating to you and your family no matter how many others have suffered the same fate. Most importantly, the danger of the defect and the risk of tragedy is growing exponentially as these airbags continue to deteriorate in the Florida heat and humidity without being replaced by manufacturers worried about the cost.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is urging owners of certain Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Chrysler, Ford and General Motor vehicles to replace the defective Takata airbags at once. Please visit  www.safercar.gov for more specific details on which vehicles are affected. You can contact your manufacturer’s website to search by VIN number to confirm whether your vehicle is on the recall list. There are fears that manufacturers don’t have enough parts available to make the necessary repairs.

Don’t worry about an exploding airbag if your car is model year 2009 or newer. The exploding airbags are only in cars that are older than five years.
