Policy Limits for Surgical Error: Veins Taken from Wrong Leg

John Doe had peripheral vascular disease in one leg which required bypass surgery. The cardiovascular surgeon decided to do a heart bypass before doing the bypass in the leg. For the heart bypass, the surgeon unbelievably harvested veins from Mr. Doe's bad leg. Not surprisingly, Mr. Doe later lost that leg.
