Legs Crushed in Pipe Factory
John Doe worked at Price Brothers factory in Palatka which makes big concrete pipes. While John was locking a steel pipe into a machine so that it could be coated with concrete, the operator turned the machine on.
The machine rolled up onto John and broke both his legs and injured his knee and back. John cannot ever return to manual labor, and his medical bills already exceed $130,000.
Trotwood obtained an order of dismissal for lack of jurisdiction, but Pajcic & Pajcic obtained a reversal on appeal. Pajcic & Pajcic retained a widely respected engineering expert who identified design changes which could have prevented the accident, including a better view of the machine for the operator, audio and visual warnings before the machine begins to move, lock-out devices and more.
In December 1997 Trotwood paid $575,000 for John's injuries.
